What's in a name?
Fireweed is a native plant that’s found throughout the temperate northern hemisphere including some areas in the boreal forests. A plant with many gifts to offer, it's famous for its dramatic color and is one of the first plants to begin the growth cycle after a disturbance on the land (like fire).
Recognizing our positionality as settler-colonizers in temperate North America, we can learn a lot from this plant. As Fireweed serves as a pollen source for honey bees, provides edible parts for animals, and materials for human activities, we hope our work will also serve both the human and more-than-human communities. Our motivation is to do our part to foster growth in a world that has been devastated, neglected, and is in a state of great flux; Fireweed reminds us that we can make a difference, as it grows even in "wastelands" and alongside railroad tracks.
Education is the means through which we share our passions and visions.
Collective is a way to honor both our work as individuals and the power of working together as a group
